You cannot visit Stuttgart without taking a trip to the city’s famous car museums - most notably, Mercedes Benz and Porsche.   • Ludwigsburg Palace – This residential palace is one of the few Baroque buildings to have survived Germany’s tumultuous history. Its large and dominating exterior, as well as its impeccable interior, make it a stunning historic location to visit.
  • Wilhelma – One of the biggest of its kind in Europe, Wilhelma is a zoo and botanical garden that provides a sanctuary and educational space for the city, and dates back to the 19th century. Visit the zoo’s Ape House and over 1,000 species of animals and plants.
  • Mercedes Benz Museum – The Mercedes Benz Museum is quite unique, as the only museum in the world to document just one brand over its lifetime of 125 years. Trace its history through its vintage cars and modern-day vehicles and learn more about the world-famous brand.
  • Porsche Museum – Home to over 80 vehicles, The Porsche Museum is located in the heart of its car making factory and reveals how the Porsche design has evolved through the years. Explore the history of the sports car from its origins in the 20th century to the present day.

Shopping in Stuttgart

  • Das Gerber - One of the staple shopping centres in Stuttgart located in the heart of the city, offering brand name stores, supermarkets such as Aldi, and food and drink options for an extensive shopping experience.
  • Breuninger - This is a high-end, exclusive shopping mall in the centre of the city that offers a selection of the finest in designer brands, from Tiffany to Chloe. The shopping centre also hosts a range of high-profile events that are not to be missed.

Food and Drink

  • Schnitzel and potatoes - A favourite across the country, schnitzel and potatoes is a filling and hearty main meal that is usually served with sauerkraut or another pickled vegetable.
  • Blechkuchen - Blechkuchen is a butter cake that is served in a platter of square-shaped delicacies and topped with a range of toppings, including almonds and sugar, and is a popular traditional cake at special events such as weddings.
  • Potato soup - A traditional potato soup is popular throughout Germany and is homely and comforting. Usually made with vegetables and a broth, every potato soup will be different so it’s best to try a wide variety.
  • Reisling wine - One of Germany’s most successful grapes, Reisling, originates here. It’s a versatile wine that can accompany most German food and is one of the most popular wines in the world.

Transport in Stuttgart

  • By foot - It’s easy to get around the centre of the city on foot, and this is the best way to experience all of the central shops, restaurants and architecture. Most distances can be achieved in less than 30 minutes.
  • Trains - The public transport in Stuttgart is excellent due to its Stadtbahn trains, which are ideal for travelling short distances around the city.
  • Taxis - It is possible to take taxis around the city, but be aware that they can be a little expensive, and it can sometimes be difficult to communicate with drivers in English.
