Destinations in Germany served by Finnair
If you’re planning a visit to Germany, then Berlin is a great place to start. Now long-recovered from the Cold War division, this is one of Europe’s most vital cultural centres with a thriving nightclub, bar and restaurant scene as well as a host of galleries and elegant shops. Düsseldorf is Germany’s fashion centre with boutique designers and shops aplenty. Frankfurt is a proudly modern skyscraper-studded city that is the home of the European Central Bank, and it is a major international financial centre. Germany’s second-largest city, Hamburg, is a famously liberal and open city that hosts the famous Reeperbahn area, packed with nightclubs and casinos. Hannover is a fascinating mixture of old and new. Stuttgart is renowned for the friendly multilingual welcome it offers to visitors. There are a huge number of museums such as those of prominent German car manufacturers, the State Gallery and the Kunstmuseum. And then there’s Munich, which offers so much more than the famous Oktoberfest. As the capital of mountainous Bavaria, it has a unique culture and cuisine and is the gateway to the alps.
Typical food and drink in Germany
German food is far more varied and versatile than its somewhat stodgy reputation might suggest. It’s well worth trying traditional dishes such as pork knuckle with the fabulous pickle Sauerkraut, fabulous cheeses like Emmentaler and Cambozola, and some lovely white wines, such as Riesling.
